Mr. Beaven practises law with Scott & Beaven Law Office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and part time as Senior Legal Counsel with the Saskatchewan Firearms Office. His focus in private practice is criminal defence, and has represented multiple clients on homicide charges and before juries. In his government practice his focus is on firearm legislation, firearms safety and training, community and Indigenous outreach, while providing advice to government ministries.
Mr. Beaven received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2006 and his Bachelor of Law in 2009, both from the University of Saskatchewan. In 2019 Mr. Beaven was appointed as an Inquest Coroner for the Province of Saskatchewan, and has presided over numerous inquests including the 2024 Inquest into the Mass Casualty Event on James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, the largest Coroner’s Inquest in Saskatchewan history.
Mr. Beaven is also a Commercial Pilot and spent multiple summers in Northern Manitoba as a bush pilot in twin engine and float-equipped aircraft. He uses his private aircraft regularly to fly to court in remote locations. Mr. Beaven holds the rank of Major in the Canadian Armed Forces working with the Canadian Cadet Organizations, and is involved in the cadet flying program as both a glider pilot and a tow plane pilot. Mr. Beaven volunteers with the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum and provides aviation experiences to the public in various warbirds in the museum collection, including a DeHavilland 82C Tiger Moth and North American Harvard IV.
